
Hopes And Dreams
Born from the desperate hopes and dreams of the Akikya you, the “Akyo”, set out to achieve their collective desires. General Unae of the Niebsyk people has forced the Akikya into exile. Travel through the celestial lagoon to defeat the divine general and allow the Akikya to repopulate their rightful home.

Hopes and Dreams was a project originally meant to be developed over a month between me and a friend, to see what we could make whilst being in full time employment. Unfortunately, my friend wasn't able to work on the project due to burn out. Instead, I decided to challenge myself and create a series on LinkedIn about how much work I can make on the game daily. I created a few mechanics and learnt about things in unreal that I haven't done before so I call that a win. Hopes and Dreams is an adventure platformer with combat elements. The player is the Akyo, the combined hopes and dreams of the Akikya made flesh. You must traverse through two areas in order to face general Unae. The world is dangerous and full of monsters and enemies trying to get you. The game would have a heavy emphasis on exploration with the game following metroidvania tropes. There would also be combat mechanics similar to dark souls with a dodge, block and attack.

Rationale
This game was meant to be a short project to help manage expectations whilst being in full employment, and still pursuing game dev as a hobby/lofty dream. This project helped me to purposely manage burnout and balance between life, work and hobbies/aspirations. On top of that I also learned a few new things working on this project so all in all I have no complaints.
